getting artwork-need help

Postby KikiTopaz » January 6th, 2016, 5:03 pm

Hi everyone,
Okay, I found an image I want to engrave for my niece's wedding. It's on a rock band website "Blackberry Smoke". I emailed them and they said I could use the image one time for a gift. Now I can't seem to lift the image from the website to vector it. I hate to ask them for a file when they were so gracious to give me permission. Any ideas? The image is a skull in a top hat and is featured on the cell phone cases in their online store. (I see they have a very limited number of engraved pints with the same image!)http://www.blackberrysmoke.com

Kari-
There's a better image of the artwork in "Zippos". Right click the image, select "save image as", & save it to a file. Let me know if I can help further.

Kari if you do a search for "black skull and top hat" there are a few that are pretty close and you may have better luck doing a redraw. If you need that exact one then go to their store and find the zippo and enlarge the photo and do a screen print then copy to your drawing program. I could not just do a save as on my end.

OR, you could use the one I provided, that I enlarged to 500 DPI & converted to grayscale. 8-)

Tony-
It's still a .JPG, just renamed .AI, but still a better image.
I resized it to 600 DPI, converted it to grayscale, and adjusted the brightness and contrast to make it easier for Kari to vectorize.

Oh my goodness! I wasn't expecting so much help. You guys are great! I found the image again on google and did my best to vector it last night after posting. I then added a few changes. I've attached it as a both jpeg and ai file. I can see where I goofed. My skull placement is a bit off and a bit too thin. Thanks everyone so much for your help!! I'm going to keep working on this until I really love it.

I can see where it needs some help, but have no doubt you can manage. Nice integration of the text. Possibly working on the variation in size, larger left, to shrinking right, approximating the original text, might add a little drama. (Use the skew tool). Keep us posted, please.
